Marollo's Late Tally Lifts Eagles to Win over Stockton

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - A tremendous showing in net from sophomore goalkeeper Faith Leake and a late goal from Ella Marrollo proved to be the difference on Tuesday evening in a 1-0 win over the Stockton Ospreys at Olson Field. Leake made a career-high 14 saves in the contest, and in the 82nd minute, Marrollo launched a beautiful arching shot over Stockton goalkeeper Morgan Kiel to secure Eastern's seventh win of the season and its third on the home pitch.

While the Ospreys outshot the Eagles 24-5 in the contest and Leake made several key stops, the Eastern defense did an excellent job of keeping the Stockton forwards wide of the Eagles' net. When the Ospreys did create strong chances, Leake had her crease locked down and kept the match scoreless to set up Marrollo's eventual game winner.

With under 10 minutes to play, junior Megan Burkholder created a turnover on a strong tackle in the Eastern attacking midfield and found Marrollo who was crossing to the middle of the field. After moving the ball to a more central position, the graduate forward launched a perfect shot over the outstretched hands of Kiel and into the top of the net, putting the Eagles ahead 1-0. It was the first career assist for Burkholder, and for Marrollo, it was her third goal at Olson Field this season.

The Ospreys were able to move the ball into Eastern's defensive zone a few more times in the final nine minutes, but Leake and the Eagles' defense stood tall to secure the Eagles' second straight shutout at home. Marrollo led the Eagles with three shots, two on frame, while Ashlynn Keys and Billinda Leisner each finished with one. First-year defender Jasmine Eccles had a strong day on Eastern's backline, neutralizing many Stockton chances throughout the course of the afternoon, and Ella Sedor, Olivia Nicholson, and Nicole Eveland all played excellent defense for the full 90 minutes.

"The ladies were happy to be back playing at home on Olson. It was an awesome result for our group in the midst of a tough stretch of games," Eastern Head Coach Jess Shanahan said. "I thought Jasmine stepped up big time in the backline. I am just really proud of the team as a whole."

The Eagles (7-3-3) will be back in action this weekend for their Homecoming contest against York. Kickoff on Friday is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
