GLENSIDE, Pa.– Eastern University Field Hockey saw its three-game winning streak snapped at a 7-1 loss at Arcadia University. The host Knights (6-6) scored three goals late in the first half to break a 1-1 tie.
Karlee Howard scored the lone goal for the Eagles.
The Eagles (5-5) came into the match without having allowed a goal in over three and a half hours of game play. The hosts broke that string with a penalty corner goal twelve minutes into the match. The three hours and 46 minutes without allowing a goal is the longest string of shutout minutes by an Eastern team since 2010. The Knights had a 13-0 edge in shots in the first quarter.
Five minutes into the second quarter, the Eagles equalized on their second penalty corner chance of the game.
Abby Hakes played the insert into
CJ Summa at the top. The high-scoring rookie drew the defense in before pushing the ball to the left. Howard struck her shot well to level the score. She has now scored in four-straight contests and has six goals for the year.
The score did not stayed tied long. The Knights carried the ensuing tip-off upfield and scored in only a few seconds. Three minutes later they capitalized on a turnover in the Eastern end for a 3-1 lead. With only seconds left in the half, Arcadia defender Morgan McEntire lofted in her second goal of three goals on the day to give Arcadia a 4-1 edge at the break.
The hosts, who honored twelve seniors before the game, came out with good energy to start the second half, but the Eagles kept the difference at three until late in the third. The Knights added two more goals early in the fourth quarter to close out the game.
The Eagles, who have scored in every game this year, are back on the road on Tuesday when they will travel to Stockton for a final non-league test before opening their league schedule at home against Messiah University next Friday.
