MAHWAH, N.J.– Eastern University Field Hockey scored two goals in a two minute stretch in the third quarter and did not allow a goal to claim a 2-0 win over the Ramapo College Roadrunners in the first ever meeting between the two programs. The Eagles (5-4) extended their shutout streak to 215 minutes with a third-straight clean sheet.
Angelina Catania made 11 saves to pick up the win.
Though the hosts had a 10-4 edge in first half shots, the game remained scoreless until the Eagles converted on a penalty corner in the 38th minute. On the seventh penalty corner of the afternoon,
Abby Hakes pushed home a
Kara Frantz drive to put the Eagles up a goal. With that goal standing as the game-winner, Hakes picked up her second career game-winning goal.
Less than two minutes later,
Karlee Howard followed up her own shot for a rebound goal and a commanding 2-0 lead. Howard has four goals and four assists in the team's recent three-game winning streak.
The Eagles finished the match with an 8-6 edge in penalty corners, but the Roadrunes (2-8) had a 16-13 edge in shots.
The shutout streak is the longest since 2024 Hall of Honor inductee Laura Ressler and her defense blanked six-straight opponents over the final three games of the regular season, both games of the Freedom Conference tournament and the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Eastern will play at Arcadia University this Saturday and at Stockton next Tuesday before opening up the MAC Commonwealth schedule with a Friday home match against the Messiah University Falcons.
