YORK, Pa.– Coming into this afternoon's MAC Commonwealth game at York College, Eastern University Women's Basketball was holding opposing teams to less than 56 points per game and 25 percent shooting from behind the arc. The host York College Spartans (13-6, 6-2) scored 25 first-quarter points and made 7-of-13 long-range efforts. The Eastern offense was not able to close the gap and fell, 74-52.
Miranda Liebtag had 14 points to lead the Eagles.
While both teams made three 3-pointers in the first quarter, the hosts were 9-of-13 overall, and after starting with a 7-0 run, led 25-15 lead after one quarter. Liebtag,
Jeriyah Johnson, and
Trinity Upton each made 3-pointers, but the Spartans put both
Taryn Woodson and
Tyerra Jarvis in foul trouble with a commitment to go inside.
Though the Eagles held their hosts to only 11 second-quarter points, they only picked up a single point in the frame as they were only able to connect for 12 points. Liebtag, who is now eight points from 1,000 for her college career, scored five points and had four rebounds in the second quarter.
The Spartans started the second half on a 7-to-1 run and kept the Eagles behind by double-digits the rest of the way. With the win, the Spartans sweep the season series and solidify their position in the second spot in the league.
The Eagles made only 6-of-21 3-pointers in the game and were 16-of-51 overall.
Jeriyah Johnson had 12 points and three assists. York is the only MAC Commonwealth team to score more than 57 points against the Eagles this year.
Eastern (7-11, 3-5) will host Widener at 6 pm in the first game of a home doubleheader on Wednesday.
