ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– In the first home match of the year, Eastern University Women's Volleyball served aggressively and was efficient in the sideout game on the way to earning a there-set win over the visiting Lancaster Bible College Chargers (2-2). The Eagles (6-2) served 12 aces and were successful on 71 percent of their sideout chances in the match.
Hannah Pringle pounded out 11 kills on just 21 swings.
Both sides were effective in the sideout game early, and the Eastern lead in the first set stood at 19-17 when
Viviana Fragoso went back to the service line. An aggressive serve led to a
Hannah Pringle kill, and Fragoso put the Eagles up 22-17 with an ace and an additional point. That margin was all the Eagles would lead to win the opening frame 25-18.
The Eastern offense had its best set in the second frame. The Eagles hit .424 with 15 kills and just one error.
Emma Flores,
Jailene Lugo, and Pringle all hit over .500 as the Eagles won 25-12.
Eastern's attack hit a respectable .292 in the third set. Ellie Jiron-Bujanda and
Grace Cooper each had two aces. Eastern scored 13 of the final 18 points of the match for a 25-15 win.
"We were efficient," Head Coach
Mark Birtwistle said after the game. "It did not always look great, but we were able to stay in control of the match with our ability to sideout."
Jailene Lugo finished with eight kills on 16 attacks and
Emma Flores had seven. Elle Jiron Bujanda had 26 assists, and
Grace Casagrande had 15 digs.
The Eagles will play at Immaculata on Thursday before playing a tri-match at Rowan University on Saturday
