Men's Lacrosse Rides Over Alvernia

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Ten different Eastern Men's Lacrosse players scored, and the Eastern defense forced 34 turnovers in a 23-1 MAC Commonwealth win over the visiting Alvernia University Golden Wolves. Avery Porter, Nicholas Fanelli, Jason Poole, and Min Lee each scored three goals.

While the Eastern offense scored six first-quarter goals, it was the smothering ride that was the story of the opening half. The Golden Wolves only cleared on two-of-eight first quarter chances. Poole had two goals and an assist in the first.

Porter scored the first two goals of the second quarter, and the junior attack finished his hat trick with 4:43 left on a pass from Christopher Fanelli. The younger Fanelli had assists on the final two goals of the first half and finished with a game-best four assists. Eastern led 12-0 at halftime. Ethan Myers made just one save, but the junior goalie caused a pair of turnovers in his thirty minutes between the pipes.

Four minutes into the second half, Nicholas Fanelli scored from close range for his 250th career point. Christopher provided the assist on the milestone goal. Four minutes later, Nicholas fed Christopher for a man-up goal and a 17-0 lead. With 87 points this year, Nicholas is only four points behind David Darling's 91-point season from 2014. He is three points off Grant Ferguson's career point mark.

The Eagles worked into their team depth in the first half, but as the second half progressed and the rain came in, the top lines gave way, and the Eastern reserves continued to ride hard while working extended possessions at the offensive end. Lee scored once in the third quarter and twice early in the fourth. Ryan Scheivert scored goals in the third and fourth quarters and Brett Williamson scored the final goal on a pass from Lee.

Dominic Marangoni forced four turnovers and Nicholas Ciampaglio forced three. Eighteen different Eagles recorded caused turnovers.

All five Eastern goalies played in the game.

With the win, the Eagles secured a spot in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. Eastern will wrap up the regular season this Saturday against Hood College.
