ASTON, Pa. - In its final non-conference game of the season, Eastern Baseball dropped a 6-3 decision to the Neumann Knights in six innings. The Eagle had an early 2-0 advantage, but four straight runs in the second and third innings by the Knights gave them a lead they would not relinquish.
Eastern (10-27) struck first in the top of the first inning. With runners on the corner with one out,
Sean Cottrell delivered an RBI single up the middle to score
Evan Barks and put the Eagles ahead 1-0. Eastern added another run in the second frame on a bases-loaded walk to
Joe Paradise.
Neumann, however, took control from there. The Knights scored two runs to tie the contest in the bottom of the second inning, before taking the lead for good in the third on an Eastern throwing error and an Andrew Curran RBI groundout. Neumann added to its lead on a two-run double from Morgan D'Amico in the sixth.
Matt McHale drove in his team-leading 24th run of the season on his team-leading 42nd hit in the sixth, an RBI single to score
Logan Klember. However, the game was called in the bottom of the sixth due to inclement weather in the area.
Eastern will return to The Yard tomorrow for its final home doubleheader of the season. The Eagles will do battle with Stevenson beginning at 12:00 pm.
