ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Lacrosse scored a season-best 17 times, but it was not enough as the visiting Immaculata University Mighty Macs pulled away late to earn a 20-17 win.
Caitlyn Quizon scored six times to lead the Eastern attack.
The Eagles scored four of the final five goals of the first quarter to lead 8-5. The final goal of the frame came on a tremendous solo-effort by
Ellie Pruitt off the right side. Pruitt had three in the first quarter and Quizon had four.
Emerson Shauger had a goal and three assists in the period.
The Mighty Macs scored the final two goals of the half to tie the game at 9-9. Throughout he opening 30 minutes, Immaculata held a 10-9 edge in draw controls.
Immaculata won 17 of the final 21 draws in the game and used that possession to build an edge.
Teresa Gailey scored twice in the third period and despite being behind in possessions, the Eagles led 12-11 midway through. The Mighty Macs scored the final three goals of the third and three of the first four goals int he fourth to build a 17-13 edge.
The Eagles outscored their visitors 4-3 over the final ten minutes, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Gailey finished with four goals, two assists, and a team-best five draw controls. Shauger finished with two goals and four assists, and Pruitt had five goals.
Annie Gough made seven saves in goal.
Liza Laxton led Immaculata with four goals and eight assists, and Kaitlyn Klitchko had six goals and two assists.
"We struggled today on the draw," Head Coach
Mikala Gillespie said after the game. "They were able to grab the momentum after goals. We had some big numbers from four of our attackers, but we had a quiet second quarter that cost us in the game. We will bounce back."
The Eagles (0-5) are at Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday.
