ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - In its final home game of the season on Tuesday at the NEST, Eastern Women's Basketball (4-19, 2-13) dropped a 71-43 decision to Lebanon Valley. The Eagles trailed by just two points after one quarter of play and eight at halftime, but a big run to start the second half gave the Dutchmen (13-11, 9-6) a double-digit lead they would not relinquish.
Taryn Woodson recorded her second straight double-double, and her eighth of the season, with 16 points on seven-of-14 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds.
Jeriyah Johnson and
Wynter Bess each scored 10 points for Eastern.
The Dutchmen built an early 8-2 lead in the first two-and-a-half minutes, but a three pointer from Johnson and three more points from Bess tied the contest at 8-8. LVC's Kailey Eckhart answered with a three to make it 11-8 LVC, before baskets from Bess and
Tyerra Jarvis put the Eagles up 12-11 with 2:44 remaining in the period. LVC's Cristina Fernandez made another three for LVC, giving the Dutchmen a 14-12 lead at the first quarter break.
Baskets from Woodson and
Stephanie White tied the contest at 16-16 in the first 90 seconds of the second quarter, but Eastern would never regain the advantage. The Dutchmen scored six straight points to take a 22-16 lead, and after a Bess field goal, ended the half on a 8-4 to go up 30-22.
Woodson opened the scoring in the second half with a layup, cutting the Dutchmen lead to 30-24. However, LVC answered with a 17-5 run over the following 4:32 to take control of the contest. The Dutchmen shot eight-of-nine from the field in that time frame, while the Eagles shot just one-of-seven. LVC's lead did not fall below 17 points the rest of the way.
Eastern will travel to Stevenson on Saturday for its season finale. The contest is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
