Eastern University Football will play at Widener for game number nine. The Eagles (2-6, 2-5) will make the short trip down the Blue Route to take on a Pride team on a three-game winning streak.
The Eagles finished their home slate with a tough 25-19 loss to FDU-Florham on an unseasonably warm Saturday last weekend. Eastern converted 4-of-4 first downs in the game and were in the red zone with just over two minutes to play before the Devils earned a stop with an interception on second down.
Jeremiah Avrilien scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and quarterback
Brett Nabb caught a short pass on a trick play for a fourth-down score. Nabb threw for 55 yards and
Sabor Stevens completed nine passes for 141 yards. Led by Avrilien with 82 yards, the Eagles rushed for over 100 yards as a team.
Gashawn Moody continues to lead the MAC in tackles. He had 14 against FDU and has 94 through eight games.
Moody and the Eastern defense will have work to do at Widener. The Pride (6-2, 5-2) lead the MAC with nearly 34 points per game. Averaging 373.5 yards per game, Widener is tied with Stevenson as the most prolific offense in the league. Behind a veteran offensive line, Chase Diehl has thrown for over 1700 yards and 19 touchdowns, and Shawn Thompson is second in the MAC with 653 rushing yards.
With their home games at Franklin Field this year, the trip to Widener will actually be the easiest travel the Eagles have had for a game, and the weather is expected to be cool and dry with no wind.
