GETTYSBURG, Pa. - A tough shooting night combined with a lengthy first quarter scoring run for the home Bullets proved to be the difference on Wednesday night as Eastern Women's Basketball dropped a 67-34 decision to Gettysburg College. After scoring the first four points, the Eagles were held scoreless for over seven minutes, and the Bullets used a 20-point run to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Eastern scored its first two baskets off steals as
Jakaylah Holland and
Miranda Liebtag scored layups to put the Eagles ahead 4-0. However, the Eagles would miss their next four shots and turn the ball over eight times as the Bullets quickly took control.
Gettysburg led Eastern 20-4 at the 1:49 mark of the quarter before Holland scored her second basket.
Jeriyah Johnson followed with a three and
Taryn Woodson a bucket in the paint, but the Eagles trailed 25-11 at the quarter break.
Eastern trailed by double-digits the rest of the way, never getting closer than 12 points. A Johnson jumper with 6:02 to go in the second quarter made it 27-15, but a basket from the Bullets on their next possession put a stop to any Eagles' comeback attempt.
Johnson led the Eagles with nine points, while Liebtag and Woodson each finished with eight points. Woodson also collected a team-high nine boards, and Holland ended her night with seven points. Eastern shot just 14-of-50 (28 percent) from the field and one-of-eight (12.5 percent) from distance.Â
Eastern (0-2) will be back on the road on Saturday for a matinee matchup with Rowan. The game is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
