ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Playing in a home opener, Eastern University Men's Basketball ran into a scorching hot Rowan University Profs team and fell 114-86.
Jaron Fairweather had 18 points, and
Zubair Lee had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, but the visitors shot 58 percent from the floor and had three players with over 20 points in the win.
The Profs (3-0), who won a pair of games at the University of Rochester tournament this past weekend, used a 20-6 run over. Seven minute stretch to turn a one-point edge into a 15-point lead.
The Eagles, (1-2) cut into that margin and trailed only 50-37 at half. Fairweather had 14 points to lead all scorers at half, but the Eagles made only 14-of-33 shots and the Profs made 20-of-38.
A 13-2 run five minutes into the second half stretched the Rowan edge further. The Eagles were able to get good shots, but only made 15-of-41 on after half and the confident Profs seemed to hit everything. Rowan went 21-of-33 from the floor after half to pull away. The 114 points was the most a Rowan team had scored since they scored 119 against Marymount in November of 2021.
Davin Hernandez scored 13 points after halftime, and
Olise Onyeka finished with 14 points and four offensive rebounds.
The Eagles will return to The Nest for a non-league test against Penn State Schuylkill on Monday at 7:00 pm.
