MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Trailing at the halftime break, Eastern Women's Soccer roared back in the final 45 minutes to salvage a 2-2 draw at Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday evening. Despite just three Eastern shots in the contest, sophomore
Emma Bennett scored her first two collegiate goals in the 58th and 78th minutes to secure the tie.
The Lions (5-3-4) outshot the Eagles 15-3 in the contest, which included seven shots in the opening half. Hannah Wheeler opened the scoring in the 30th minute, and added an assist on Abigail Frew's tally in the 36th minute to put PSU Harrisburg ahead 2-0 after the first 45 minutes.
The Eagles recorded just two shots in the second half, but both ended up in the back of the net. Off a corner from
Ashlynn Keys, Bennett tapped it in at the back post to cut the advantage to 2-1. Twenty minutes later,
Madelyn Mullen, off a strong run down the line, found Bennett in the 18-yard back back post. The Lions' keeper made the original header save, but Bennett gathered the rebound and volleyed into the side netting at the far post to tie the contest at 2-2.
After the Bennett equalizer, the Lions recorded four shots in the final seven minutes, but first-year goalie
Faith Leake held her ground with two huge saves. In her second start, the Philadelphia native made seven saves, increasing her season total to 16.
The Eagles (1-4-4) return to conference play on Saturday with a match against Alvernia at Olson Field. The contest is set to begin at 12 noon.
