Women's Basketball Falls at LVC

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Offensive struggles proved to the difference on Wednesday night at Sorrentino Gymnasium as Eastern Women's Basketball (3-12, 1-7 MACC) dropped a 53-39 decision to Lebanon Valley. The Eagles shot just 17-of-54 (31.5 percent) from the floor while turning the ball over over 20 times in the contest.

LVC (8-8, 5-3 MACC) scored the first four points of the game before Jeriyah Johnson knocked down her first field goal to make it 4-2 three minutes into the contest. Taryn Woodson scored in the paint to make it 6-4 LVC, but the Dutchmen answered with seven straight points to grab a 13-4 advantage with 2:44 to play in the quarter. Woodson and Stephanie White each scored in the final 2:07 of the frame, but the Dutchmen took a 15-8 into the second quarter.

The Eagles were able to cut the LVC lead down to four twice in the early stages of the second frame, first on a three-pointer from Wynter Bess and then on another layup from Woodson. However, the Dutchmen went on another run, scoring nine points in just over a minute of play to increase its lead to 26-13. Bess countered with a 7-0 run of her own, trimming the LVC lead down to six points, but the Dutchmen scored the final seven points of the half to take a 33-20 advantage into the locker room.

Eastern began the second half on a 10-2 run, five of those coming from Johnson, to make it a 35-30 LVC lead with 4:01 to play, The Dutchmen, though, would not like the Eagles get any closer, scoring the final six points of the frame to push its lead advantage back to 11. A three-pointer from Johnson cut the LVC lead down to eight, but the Dutchmen quickly regained their double-digit advantage and held it the rest of the way.

Johnson led the Eagles with 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half, on six-of-16 shooting from the field and three-of-five from beyond the arc to go along with five rebounds. Bess finished with 10 points, while Taryn Woodson collected eight points, nine rebounds, two steals, and a block.

Eastern will be back on the road to face York for the second time this season. The contest is set to tip off at 1:00 pm.
