Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Hoops Falls at York

YORK, Pa. - Offensive struggles proved to be the difference on Saturday afternoon as Eastern Women's Basketball (3-13, 1-8 MACC) dropped a 60-38 decision to York. The Eagles made just 14 of their 65 field goal attempts (21.5 percent) and were outscored 32-20 over the final 15:53 of game action.

The Spartans (7-11, 4-5 MACC) scored the first seven points of the contest before Jeriyah Johnson got the Eagles on the board with four straight points. After two straight buckets from York, a pair of free throws from Ebony Johnson and a third field goal from Jeriyah Johnson cut the Spartans' lead to 11-8. However, the Spartans answered with a three-pointer with nine seconds left in the quarter to take a 14-8 lead into the second frame.

Wynter Bess hit a pair of threes in the opening two minutes of the second quarter, which trimmed the Spartan advantage to four points, but York countered with six straight points to build its lead back up to 10 points. Tyerra Jarvis hit a jumper at the buzzer, but York went into halftime leading 24-16.

Taryn Woodson scored the first four points of the second half for the Eagles, making it a 28-20 York lead with 6:09 to play in the third quarter. From that moment on, however, York took the control of the contest. Over the final 16 minutes, the Spartans shot 13-of-22 from the field and three-of-eight from beyond the arc, building a double-digit advantage they would not relinquish. Conversely, the Eagles made just seven of their final 29 field goal attempts, scoring just 20 points in that span.

Bess led the Eagles with 12 points to go along with five rebounds, while Jeriyah Johnson finished with eight points. Woodson added seven points and a team-high 13 rebounds.

"We struggled on both ends of the floor," Eastern Head Coach Eric Houston said. "Just a very tough day. We have to move past it and get ready for Wednesday. We have some work to do."

Eastern will return to the NEST on Wednesday for its final non-conference contest against Salisbury. The game is set to tip off at 6:00 pm.
