WINCHESTER, Va. - In its first match of a two-game road trip, Eastern Women's Soccer failed to create much offense in a 2-0 loss to Shenandoah on Saturday. The Hornets outshot the Eagles by 19-2 margin and scored one goal in each half to secure their fifth victory of the season.
Shenandoah came out firing with five shots in the 27 minutes and broke the scoreless tie in the 28th minute on a goal from Sarah Crusse.
Sarah Wilk created Eastern's lone chance of the first half, which was saved by Shenandoah's Karissa Dominick.
The Hornets added to their lead in the first 20 seconds of the second half on a tally from Kristina Skulte, and kept up the offensive pressure with 10 shots in the final 45 minutes. First-year midfielder
Paige Snell recorded the Eagles second chance in the 73rd minute, but the shot was saved by Dominick.
First-year goalkeeper
Brooke Moskey made eight more saves for the Eagles, pushing her season total to 45.
"It was a hard-fought game against an tough opponent with a couple of individual threat and standouts on their squad," Eastern Head Coach
Jess Shanahan said. "Time to regroup and come back strong for the week ahead. We have talent, but need to dig deep and become tougher mentally as a whole."Â
