ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– In the team's final non-league test of the year, Eastern University Women's Lacrosse dropped a 19-5 decision to the visiting Elizabethtown College Blue Jays. Cecilia Wilson scored twice to lead the Eastern offense.
While the Blue Jays came into the game with a matching record, their offense had been producing throughout the year. Kate Ziegler entered the game with 56 goals and Hannah Cressman had nearly 50 assists. That combination caused a problem for the Eastern defense early. Even though the Eagles won the first four draw controls and 6-of-9 in the first quarter, they all came after Elizabethtown goals. Ziegler had four first-period goals and Cressman had four first-frame assists on the way to an 8-0 lead at the break. Cressman finished the game with a goal and 11 assists, and Ziegler had eight goals. Seven of those came directly from Cressman.
Though the Eagles closed the gap in shots in the second quarter, they were not able to beat the Elizabethtown goalie and had a
Hailey Ferry free-position attempt hit off the crossbar and spin away from danger. The Blue Jays led 12-0 at the half.
The Eagles finally got on the board with two goals from Wilson late in the third period. With goals from Ferry,
Caitlyn Quizon, and
Emerson Shauger the Eagles outscored the Blue Jays 3-2 in the final frame, but the Elizabethtown lead was too big to overcome.
Eastern will finish the year at Messiah on Saturday.
