READING, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse used an aggressive ride and balances scoring to pull away to a 19-0 road win at Alvernia. Eleven different Eastern players scored goals in the win.
In the opening period, the host Golden Wolves held their own on faceoffs, but their possession was neutralized as the Eastern defense kept them from clearing their zone. This aggressive 'ride' kept Alvernia from generating an attack and led to transition chances for the Eagles.
The Eastern attack feasted on those chances early. In the first quarter,
Nicholas Fanelli had three goals and two assists,
Connor Killion and
Christopher Fanelli each had two goals and an assist in the frame.
Connor Bachman,
Nick Litzenberger, and
Avery Porter also scored as the Eagles led 10-0 at the first break.
The Eagles scored three times in each of the final three periods for the final margin.
Jake Vitone and
Luc Trudel socred twice each.
Adam Booz,
Ryan Drobnick and Nate Portray also scored. Porter finished with three assists.
Five Eastern goalies split the shutout.
Ethan Myers played the opening period and picked up the win.
Connor Evans and
Zachary Klym each stopped two shots and
Ben Connolly made one save.
William Blum played the third period but did not face a shot on goal.
Alvernia finished 17-of-33 on clears. The Eagles finished with a 68-13 edge in shots. Fourteen different Eastern players were credited with a caused turnover, and thirty different players picked up at least one ground ball.
"This was a good team win," Head Coach
Kevin Wallace said after the game. "We felt like we did a lot of things right on Saturday and did not want to take a step backwards today. We did a great job executing in the ride and working on a lot of things we need to work on. It is also good to see guys who don't see a lot of action in games like Saturday get a chance to be on the field. Our guys on the sidelines were good teammates and did a good job respecting the game."
The Eagles are off for the Easter weekend and are back in action on Olson Field against Albright next Wednesday.
