ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse used an aggressive ride and balanced attack to earn a 23-7 MAC Commonwealth win over the visiting Albright College Lions.
Connor Killion had four goals and five assists to lead the Eastern offense.
The Eagles held the Lions to 3-of-12 on first-period clearing attempts. Eastern converted many of those turnovers into scoring chances and goals on the way to a 9-1 lead after 13 minutes. Killion set up
Christopher Fanelli for an in-close goal 34 seconds into the game. The Eagles doubled that lead when Killion set up
Nicholas Fanelli 90 seconds later.
Nicholas Fanelli found
Avery Porter to put the Eagles up 3-0 before the Lions had possession in their offensive zone.
The Lions converted an extra-man opportunity to close the gap to 3-1. The Eagles bounced right back.
Nick Litzenberger scored on a dodge and a long shot ot the bottom corner, then
Christopher Fanelli converted from
Jake Gottschalk for an extra-man goal with nine minutes left in the period. The Eagles were 2-of-2 on extra-man chances in the first and 3-of-4 on the day.
Christopher Fanelli scored three goals and added an assist in the first quarter. The rookie attack then only played on a single extra-man shift after the first period.
Killion had a hand in the final four goals of the first quarter. He set up each of the Fanelli brothers and scored a pair. The Eagles matched their first-quarter production with another 9-1 frame in the second.
Nicholas Fanelli had three goals, including a stunning behind-the-head effort in the frame. He finished the day with five goals and two assists.
Ryan Drobnick,
Jake Vitone, Porter, and
Connor Bachman all tallied goals in the second.
Ethan Myers made three first-half saves to earn the win.
Connor Evans made eight stops in the third, and WIlliam Blum,
Zachary Klym and
Ben Connolly split the fourth quarter.
Drobnick had three of Eastern's five second-half goals. Vitone and
Adam Booz also scored.
Patrick McClain and
Anthony Firmani each won 13 faceoffs as the Eagles dominated at the X. McClain had a game-high 10 ground balls and also recorded an assist.
The Eagles (6-8, 4-2) are at Hood College this Saturday. They will have a chance to secure a post-season berth with a win.
