Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Stopped by RPI in Florida

CLEARWATER, Fla.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse dropped a 12-10 decision to the unbeaTEN Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers in a neutral-site game. Connor Killion scored four times in helping the Eagles to rally from an early 4-1 deficit.

RPI (5-0) came into the game averaging over 17 goals per game. With three goals in the first four minutes, the Engineers seemed to be heading toward another big offensive day. Killion stopped the run with his first of the day, but RPI still lead 4-1 with six minutes to play in the first quarter.

The Eagles (0-4) scored five of the next six goals to grab a 6-5 edge at the midpoint of the second quarter. Five different Eastern players scored in the burst. Avery Porter scored the first from Siam Owen before Christopher Fanelli finished a pass from his older brother Nicholas. Connor Bachman openened the second quarter with a goal before Nicholas Fanelli finished to tie the game at 5-5 eleven minutes before the half.

Killion closed out the run off a pass from Owen, but the Engineers scored a pair in quick succession to lead 7-6. Nicholas Fanelli scored the final goal of the first half to send the two teams to the break tied at seven. Ethan Myers made nine of his 18 saves before the break.

Killion put the Eagles up 8-7, but the Engineers again answered with a goal off the ensuing faceoff. Porter put away his second of the day with a minute left in the third to tie the score, but RPI again won a faceoff and closed the third up 10-9.

The Engineers won critical faceoffs in the fourth quarter and built a three-goal cushion early in the period. Killion closed the gap to two with nearly seven minutes to play, but the Eagles were unable to get closer.

"We did a lot of things better," Head Coach Kevin Wallace acknowledged. "They are a good offensive team and we limited their chances. We had some critical breakdowns at key moments. You cannot do that against  good teams."

The Eagles will play at Arcadia next Saturday.
