ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Tennis earned an 8-1 win over the visiting Penn State-Brandywine to open the home part of the schedule.
Darren Lopez and
Bryan Levi rallied from three games down to earn a 9-8 win at first doubles and
Jacob Craig won his singles match in three long sets to pick up two wins on the day.
The Eagles jumped to an early 2-0 lead when
Nick Wool and Craig and Jake Devage and
Ryan Kratz cruised to wins in the doubles rotation. Wool and Craig finished first with an 8-0 win at third doubles. Devage and Kratz won 8-2 a the second spot a few minutes later.
With Lopez playing first doubles, Craig was the first singles match to go out on the court.
Lopez and Levi trailed 6-3 but rallied to grab a 7-6 lead. The Lion duo were able to earn a break and hold serve to go up 8-7 and put the pressure on Lopez at the service line. His service game to tie the match at 6-6 featured at least eight deuce points. The Eastern team ground out a win to force a ten-point tiebreaker. They put the Eagles up up 3-0 with a 10-2 win.
All the while, Craig kept playing his match at the number six singles spot.
Wool, Lopez, and Levi jumped on courts to start their singles matches. Wool earned a 6-0,6-0 win to earn the fourth Eastern point, and Kratz started his match. Shortly before Lopez earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at third singles, Craig wrapped up his three set win. After winning the first set 6-3, he dropped the second by the same score.
When both players won six games in the third, they were forced into a tiebreaker. Craig trailed 6-4 in the race to seven but scored the last four points to earn the win and secure the squad's fifth point.
Kratz and Devage earned decisive wins at fourth and fifth singles for the final result.
The Eagles (2-1) will play at King's on Thursday.
