Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Wins in Three at Neumann

ASTON, Pa.– Eastern University men's Volleyball hit .291 on the way to a convincing three-set win at Neumann University. Foster Lobb led the way with 11 kills, ten digs, and five aces.

After spending the last couple weeks playing teams at or near the top of the MAC, the Eagles came into tonight's game wanting to increase the speed and diversity of their attack. Both Andres Suarez and Ben Sierer recorder career-high numbers in attacks and kills. The two middle hitters both finished the match with seven kills.

"This was a team victory in every sense of the word," Head Coach Randy Syracuse said after the match. "We had positive contributions made by everyone. Even though we know we were battling some of the best teams in the country prior to tonight, the losses against those teams can weigh on a team's confidence, so it felt very good to get back in the win column."

Syracuse noted that both Suarez and Sierer were effective in the middle and that the passing was good enough that Chris Miller was able to get the middles involved. He noted that Justin Flor and Lucas Adam had very good runs form the service line, and that Rodney Quarles had a solid hitting night with some very impressive blocks on the left side.

After the two teams traded points early int he first set, the Eagles opened up the match with Lobb at the service line. He delivered five aces in a 13-point run. When his serves did not hit the floor, they put the Neumann offense on its heels and let the Eagles score in transition. Quarles had four kills in the first set and delivered kills on the final two points of the set for the 25-9 win.

The Eagles used service runs from Suarez, Flor, and Adam to pull away in the second set. Suarez had the final two kills of the second set in a 25-12 win. Sierer put down four kills on eight swings in the second set.

The Eagles had a few more hitting errors while trying some new things in the third, but did not trail in claiming the third set by a 25-14 margin. Trey Miller finished with a match-high 13 digs. Chris Miller had 25 assists and Nick Storz had nine.

The Eagles return to MAC competition this weekend with a pair of games at King's College. They will play the Arcadia University Knights at 2:00 pm and the host Monarchs at 4:00.
