ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Six different Eastern players scored goals as Eastern University Field Hockey claimed a 7-1 non-conference win over the visiting Lancaster Bible College Chargers.
Morgan Unruh finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Eastern attack.
From he start, the Eagles (4-7) established a massive edge in field position and possession. Though they owned a 7-to-1 edge in first-quarter penalty corners, they were unable to convert on their first five. The Eastern attack finally broke through after
Abby Agapito turned away a blistering smash at the other end.
The first Eastern goal came on the sixth penalty corner of the match. An
Emerson Shauger shot created the action for the goal. Unruh pushed the rebound off the goalie's pads for
Ellie Pruitt to finish. The pair combined in the opposite order on the next corner.
Sydney Davis drove the shot at the goalie for the next Eastern tally. Pruitt pushed the ball away from the goalkeeper's pads and Unruh, who had played the original insert, finished her first goal of the day.
The Chargers (3-7) opened the second quarter with a transition goal, and the game remained a one-goal match until
Kara Frantz drove a shot from the top of the circle through traffic for another penalty-corner goal. Her 30th minute tally gave the Eagles a two-goal cushion at halftime. The Eagles held a 17-3 edge in first-half shots.
The Eagles continued to command the action of the game but did not find another goal until early in the fourth quarter.
Rebecca Webb scored off rebound of her own shot in the 46th minute. Eastern's two seniors combined for the fifth goal of the match.
Lily White found
Morgan Ruhl in the middle of the circle in the 49th minute. Two minutes later, White deflected a ball to Unruh for a sixth.
Paige Brouse scored her first career goal to close out the scoring.
Kate Hall played the final three quarters in goal for Eastern.
"I am super-proud of this total team win," Head Coach
Abbey Kemble said after the match. "It was great to have six different goal-scorers hitting the back of the net. Our team made a great effort to develop offensive opportunities by ripping shots and creating corners. We're looking forward to capitalizing on them more in the future."
The Eagles will host the No. 10 Messiah University Falcons at 11:00 am on Saturday for homecoming.
