CHESTER, Pa. - In its second MAC Commonwealth tilt, Eastern Women's Soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to Widener on Tuesday evening.
Lindsay Kline scored her second goal of the season early in the second half, but a quick answer by the Pride proved to be the difference in the one-goal defeat.
Widener dominated both possession and field position throughout the match. The Pride outshot the Eagles 23-2 in the contest, which included a 13-1 margin in shots on target and 13 shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
Widener ripped off six shots in the opening 14 minutes. The sixth found the back of the net off the right foot of Ciara Minkel, which gave the Pride a 1-0 lead.Â
Eastern's lone two shots of the contest came early in the second half.
Leah Mowery's first chance hit off the crossbar and went out of play, leading to a corner kick. With the ball bouncing around the box after the ensuing restart, Kline was able to corral the ball and fire it into the bottom left corner of the net to tie the contest at 1-1 in the 47th minute.Â
The tie would not last, however, as Widener's Alyssa Carman scored the game-winner, her fourth of the season, five minutes later on a tremendous individual effort. The Pride rode that momentum the rest of the way, not allowing any more quality scoring chances for the Eagles in the second half.Â
"Tough loss tonight," Eastern Head Coach
Jess Shanahan said. "Missing some impactful players, but happy to get one back for limited minutes tonight. Heads held high and looking forward to Saturday."Â
Brooke Moskey stood tall under relentless pressure throughout the match. The first-year goalkeeper from Kennett Square set a new career-high with 11 saves against the Pride.Â
Eastern will be back in action on Saturday afternoon for a Homecoming matchup with Hood. Kickoff is set for 12:30 pm.Â
