ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - On Homecoming Saturday, Eastern Women's Soccer gave up a pair of late goals in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Hood College. Madelyn Mullen scored her fourth goal of the season early in the second half, but goals in the 77th and 79th minutes by Hood's Ava Swartz proved to be the difference in the Eagles' one-goal defeat.

The Eagles held the early advantage in possession and field position with four shots in the opening 17 minutes. However, the Blazers eventually settled into their gameplan and began to hold the majority of possession the rest of the first half. Hood fired off eight shots in the first half, but first-year goalkeeper Brooke Moskey was up to the task with six saves.

With strong pressure in the 52nd minute, Mullen was able to break the scoreless tie. The junior forward forced a turnover in the box, and after some solid ball movement between she and Sydney Koncsol, fired the ball into an open cage to put the Eagles up 1-0.

However, disaster struck in the final 13 minutes as the Blazers were able to turn their one-goal deficit into a one-goal advantage off a pair of goals from Ava Swartz. The first found its way into the net off a back post scrum, while the second came off a one-on-one opportunity.

The Eagles only had one more shot the rest of the way, as Paige Snell skied one high over the net late in the match.

Eastern will be back at Olson Field on Wednesday, Oct. 15 to do battle with Lebanon Valley. The contest is set to begin at 4:00 pm.
