Women's Soccer Falls to LVC

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - First-year midfielder Paige Snell scored her first collegiate goal on Wednesday evening, but a late goal proved to be the difference in Eastern Women's Soccer's 2-1 loss to Lebanon Valley. Kaitlyn Brumbaugh's tally in the 75th minute pushed the Eagles' record to 0-3-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.

Emma Bennett recorded the first shot of the game for the Eagles just 31 seconds into the contest, but LVC quickly control of both possession and field position early in the first half. Off an Eastern foul, the Dutchmen struck first in the 30th minute on a free kick restart by Kyra Rishell.

The Eagles, however, continued to battle, scoring the equalizer just nine minutes later. Working in the LVC box, Gianna Festino headed the ball to Snell, who subsequently sailed it over the head of Dutchmen goalkeeper Jocelyn Umana. It was the first career goal for Snell and the first collegiate assist for Festino.

The Dutchmen came out strong in the second half as they continued to control a majority of the possession in the Eastern defensive zone. LVC fired off 11 shots in the first 30 minutes of the second half before breaking the 1-1 tie in the 75th minute. A shot by Alyssa Peiffer was saved by Brooke Moskey, but Brumbaugh was able put home the rebound for the game-winning score.

LVC outshot Eastern 18-6 in the contest, which included a 12-4 advantage in the second half and a 13-3 edge in shots on target. Lindsay Kline led the eagles with three shots, while Snell, Bennett, and Ashtyn Heisey each finished with one. Jessica Burg played a tremendous game in the midfield, creating offense while also playing sound defense throughout the evening.

"We battled hard and played tough all game," Eastern Head Coach Jess Shanahan said. "Jess was stout in the midfield. We just couldn't get the result against a good team."

Eastern will be back in action on Saturday evening against Messiah. The contest is set to begin at 5:00 pm.
