Women's Basketball Rallies Past Albright for Fourth Straight Win

READING, Pa. – Eastern University Women's Basketball rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit to earn a 58-56 MAC Commonwealth win at Albright College. Camila Sosa led the Eagles with 21 points and Mikayla Wright posted her third consecutive double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds. The win is the fourth-consecutive victory for the Eagles (6-8, 3-3 MACC).

The Lions  (8-4, 3-2 MACC) held a 28-24 lead at half and stretched that edge to 41-30 midway through the third quarter. A Taryn Woodson lay-up stopped a 6-0 Albright run and started a 8-0 burst for the Eagles. Brynn Schmidt found Jaylyn Harris for a lay-up before Wright connected on a pair of free throws and Schmidt fed Woodson to close the Albright lead to 41-38.

Albright hit a 3-pointer to stop the run, but Harris connected from deep to keep the game within a one-possession affair. Harris finished the game with nine points and a pair of made 3-pointers. The senior guard now has 168 long-range baskets and is three short of the program record.

Albright held a 46-42 lead at the end of the third quarter. Sosa then took over for a burst. The first-year guard opened the final frame with a 3-pointer and then converted a three-point play on a beautiful left-handed attempt from in close to put the Eagles up. Sosa finished the game with just one turnover in nearly 35 minutes running the point. The 21-point effort eclipses her previous career-high of 14.

Though the Lions never trailed by more than four points, the Eagles did not trail the rest of the way. Harris hit her second 3-pointer out of a timeout after the Lions cut the Eastern lead to one midway through the fourth. Woodson made the only Eastern basket of the final five minutes on another strong pass from Schmidt. Woodson battled through foul trouble to finish with ten points and nine rebounds. Schmidt had five points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals while leading the Eastern defense.

"This was a great team win, " Head Coach Eric Houston said after the game. "Camila played her best game so far, and we were able to dig in and get stops on defense. I am really proud of the way we competed."

Sosa led all Eastern scorers with nine at the break. She made a lay-up under pressure as time expired in the first quarter and showed-up again with a pair of free throws just before time expired at the half.

Eastern hosts York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
