Men's Lacrosse Closes Regular Season With 20-11 Win Over Arcadia

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – In the final regular-season game of the year for both teams, Eastern University Men's Lacrosse used a pair of first-half bursts to build a ten-goal lead and held on for a 20-11 non-conference win over the visiting Arcadia University Knights. Kyle Fanelli scored four times in the first half to pace the Eastern attack.

After a slow start at Stevens last Friday, the Eagles (8-4) came flying out of the gates today. With Patrick McClain dominating the faceoff X early, the Eagles scored four times in the opening three minutes and fifteen seconds and built a 6-1 lead by the time the game was nine minutes old. Five different Eastern players scored in the opening burst. Kyle Fanelli scored twice. Nicholas Fanelli, Jake Gottschalk, Ryker LaFranchi, and David Thomas all added early goals.

After Arcadia scored, Kyle Fanelli finished a spectacular turnaround shot on the crease on a feed from Connor Killion to build a 7-2 lead. Killion finished with a career-best five helpers to lead the Eagles.

The Knights scored twice in the final minute of the first period to worry the home side, but the Eagles pounded home the first six goals of the second quarter and led 15-5 at intermission. The Eagles won seven-of-ten faceoffs and forced Arcadia into seven second-quarter turnovers and had a 21-3 advantage in shots in the frame. Eastern had a 39-9 edge in first-half shots.

Killion and Avery Porter each scored twice in the 8-to-1 run in the second quarter. Kyle Mulrane, Thomas, Kyle and Nicholas Fanelli each added single tallies.

The Eagles slowed the game down in the third. Nicholas Fanelli scored from LaFranchi at the midpoint of the quarter and Adam Booz scored on the ensuing faceoff off a pass from McClain. Nathan Gilbert ripped home his first career goal to put the Eagles up 18-5 with six minutes to play in the period.

Thomas and Gottschalk scored Eastern's two fourth-quarter goals.

Ethan Myers played 23 minutes and picked up the win in goal. Connor Evans, Kyle Dampman, and William Blum also played. McClain won 14-of-20 faceoffs and had a team-high 10 ground balls. Chris Durning had nine ground balls and five caused turnovers.

The Eagles are the third seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Tournament. They will host Lebanon Valley College on Saturday. Arcadia's seeding for the upcoming MAC Freedom Tournament remains to be determined. The Knights (7-6, 6-2) await the results of tomorrow's game between DeSales and Misericordia. If DeSales wins, Arcadia will be third and host Wilkes. If Misericordia wins, they will improve to second and will host seventh-seeded Lycoming.
