ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Thirteen different Eastern University Men's Lacrosse players scored goals in a 24-4 MAC Commonwealth Quarterfinal win over the visiting Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen.
Nicholas Fanelli scored six times and added two assists and older brother
Kyle Fanelli tallied four goals and two assists to lead the Eagles in the win.
The Eagles (9-4) had a slow start at Lebanon Valley the first times the two teams met, and the emphasis for the day was to work to be more efficient in shooting. In the game in Annville, LVC goalie Nick Serrano stopped 22 Eastern shots and the Eagles did not lead until the final seconds of the first half.
Today, the Eagles put pressure on from the start and did a good job changing planes on shots to keep Serrano off balance. The formula for winning, according to the Eastern offensive coaches is to shoot 30 % and get 50 shots. The Eagles finished the game with 24 goals on 52 shots. More important, the Eastern attack scored 15 times on 32 first-half shots to build 15-3 halftime edge.
The Fanelli brothers combined on the first two goals of the day and had three-Fanelli-Fanelli connections in the first half. The second goal of the game came over eight minutes into the game on a man-up chance. The Eastern man-up unit went 4-for-6 on extra-man chances .
Nicholas Fanelli made it 3-0 less than a minute later and
Kyle Mulrane buried his first of two on the day off a pass from fellow Kyle,
Kyle Fanelli.
Up 4-0 at the quarter break, the Eagles needed to put a statement together in the second quarter.
They did.
Cole Millard, playing in his 76th game, scored his first career goal to [put the Eagles up 5-0. The play came after
Chris Durning an
Kyran Baker forced a turnover in front of the LVC bench. Millard tied
Jordan Norris on the career caused-turnover list and is shooting 33 percent for his career.
Kyle Fanelli scored a stunning behind the head goal from his brother before the Dutchmen scored three of the next four goals to cut the Eastern lead to 7-3.
The Eastern ride then showed up to change the tide of the game. After a turnover in the attacking end, the Eastern attack worked to win the ball back.
Nicholas Fanelli chopped a ball free and scored on a solo effort to give Eastern an 8-3 edge and slow the LVC momentum.
David Thomas scored and then the Eagles went man-up on a faceoff violation and
Nicholas Fanelli scored from Mulrane,
The Eagles added five more in a three-minute stretch as
Patrick McClain and
Anthony Firmani wore out the LVC faceoff players. Eastern held a commanding 21-of-31 edge in faceoffs for the game. McClain scored once and
Avery Porter joined the Fanelli family with a goal in the burst.
After Mulrane and

Nicholas Fanelli stole a pass from the goalie on a clear and had an open net. The Eastern ride held LVC to only 9-of-22 on clears.
Connor Gill,
Adam Booz,
Jared Hoerter,
Liam O'Connor, and
Siam Owen all scored in the last 25 minutes.
The Eastern goalies finished with 11 saves.
