Men's Golf Wins at Lebanon Valley

LEBANON, Pa.– With a 317 in very tough conditions at Lebanon Country Club, Eastern University Men's Golf picked up its first tournament win of the year. Led by a second place finish from sophomore Zach Bruecks, the Eagles topped nine other squads over the 6562 yard par-72 loop.

Bruecks started the round at 3-over on his first two holes, he bounced back with four pars in a row and a birdie on the par-5 seventh. Despite gusting winds over 20 miles an hour, Bruecks was able to get his ball on the ground and scramble for pars  and finished with a birdie on 18 to end the day with a 75.

"I was very pleased with the way Zach hung in there and kept making pars," Head Coach Drew Patterson said "Pars today felt like birdies. They were earned. I am looking forward to two full weeks of practice before the guys play again at York."

Devin Cooper finished with an 80, and Nicky Marrollo and Jack Mangene also scored with 81's. Mangene fired three birdies in his round, but ran into some trouble on the back. Marrollo and Cooper both played better on the back nine than they did on the front.

"All the other guys had a couple bad holes and couldn't get in a rhythm," Patterson noted. "We need to learn how to focus on go to shots and make better decisions on the course. When it's this windy you can fight it but have to use it to help you and be in the right spots to score. I was very proud of the guys turning around their days on the back nine. Today was a very mentally tough day, but mental toughness and focus was the key to finding the best we could out there. I am pleased with the way we played, but I know there is more."

The Eagles finished ahead of MAC Commonwealth contender York College by five strokes. Stevenson and Albright were also in the field of ten teams.

The Eagles will be at York College on April 12.
