Men's Volleyball Drops Two at Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Volleyball dropped a pair of tight matches at Misericordia. The Eagles hit .271 in a four-set loss in the opening match before the dropping the second match in three. Foster Lobb led the Eagles with 22 kills and 17 digs.

The Eagles scuffled out of the gate defensively in the opening match. Misericordia hit .458 to claim a 25-17 win in the opening set. The Eastern squad responded with an impressive 25-21 win in the second set. Five different Eagles recorded multiple kills in the set as they pounded out 14 kills on only 30 swings.

The host Cougars won the third and had a 22-15 lead in the fourth before the Eagles put together two big runs on serve with Lobb and Lucas Adam each serving for three points. The rally fell just short as the Cougars scored the final two points for a 26-24 win in the fourth. The final point fo the match came on a serve that hit the tape and dropped into play.

Trey Miller had ten digs in the opener and Justin Flor finished with 38 assists.

Misericordia built leads in each of the first two sets of the second match. The Eagles scratched back to level at 22-22 in the second set on a block from Ben Sierer and Darren Lopez, but the Cougars scored the final three points for a 25-22 win and a commanding two-set lead. The Eagles were unable to muster a rally in the seventh set of the day and fell 25-17.

"We lost the serve/serve receive game by a wide margin.," Head Coach Randy Syracuse said of the day.  "Our inability to put pressure on with our serve left them 'in system' where they could run whatever they wanted offensively. We ended up being back on our heels reacting to what they were doing most of the day and particularly in the second match. We did some good things at different times, but not enough in a row to get a win. "

The Eagles will head back up the Northeast Extension on Wednesday to play Wilkes in a single match.
