Men's Volleyball Blanks Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Volleyball picked up a three-set win at Wilkes behind a dominating hitting performance from Foster Lobb. The sophomore outside hitter had 14 kills on 24 swings to lead the Eagles to a .333 team hitting percentage for the match.

Eastern (3-11) pounded out fifteen kills with just one error in claiming a 25-14 win in the first set. Five different Eagles had kills in the frame and Justin Flor picked up nine assists. Eastern went up 20-12 on a Darren Lopez ace and then were able to finish the set with kills from Lucas Adam and Lobb with Flor providing pressure at the service line.

While the Eagles were not quite as efficient in the second set, the results looked very similar. Eastern took advantage of nine Wilkes' hitting errors and the Eagles were able to score points in all six serving rotations to earn a 25-16 win.

Eastern hit .357 in the third set to claim the match. Eastern again was able to apply pressure in all six serving rotations and the offense was well-distributed. Gabe Perez had three kills in the final set and Lobb had four. The Eagles grabbed control of the frame on a four-point run with Lucas Adam at the service line. The rookie outside hitter finished the day with three aces.

Eastern built a 22-13 lead with Flor at the line and was able to side out for the win.

"[This was an] Incredible hitting performance by Foster that was supported by the entire team on a night where we could do no wrong," Head Coach Randy Syracuse said. "We focused this week in practice on  serving and defensive positioning, and it yielded great results.  Though we had one stuff block, our presence at the net was instrumental in how our defense played tonight. "

"Justin Flor had his best setting night of his career, " Syracuse continued. "He moved the ball consistently around to all his attackers  yielding several one-on-zero attacks.  That is the gold standard for setters. I really needed 7 sweater vests after tonight's match but in the end the SVPOD goes to Justin Flor. "

The Eagles will host the Stevenson University Mustangs for a pair of matches on Saturday. Eastern will play Widener in the first round of the post-season tournament. The location of that match depends on results from the weekend.
