Women's Lacrosse Rallies Past Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Lacrosse erased a five-goal second-half deficit and scored the final five goals of the contest to claim a 20-19 non-league win at Delaware Valley. Hailey Ferry scored six of her game-high seven goals in the second half to lead the Eagles in the rally.

Eastern (1-1) won a barn-burner in the last meeting between the two squads in Doylestown in 2019. The Eagles won that game 25-24 in overtime. Carly Burns, Allison Andres, Stephanie Druid and Michelle Martin are the only four holdovers from that game. Today, Andres scored three times and Burns scored twice.

The Aggies scored the first four goals of the game and led 8-3 on a free-position goal 21 minutes into the game. Burns and Ferry answered to cut the deficit to 8-5, but tthe Aggies scored three-straight to build a five-goal edge. Chirstina Butler tucked in her first career goal with a minute to play and after Druid gathered a draw control, Andres scored int he waning seconds to send the Eagles to halftime down 11-7. Ellie Pruitt had three goals in the first half. Emerson Shauger also scored.

After Andres scored to open the second half, the hosts built a 17-12 lead with 14 minutes left. Butler socred again, but the Aggies answered to keep the five-goal edge with 10 minutes to go. Andres and Teresa Gailey scored to close the gap to 18-15 with seven minutes left, but the Aggies grabbed the draw and pumped in their 19th goal of the day within seconds of Gailey's tally.

After Andres won the draw, Ferry scored in a man-up situation to start the decisive final six minutes. Shauger scored again to pull the Eagles to within two. The Aggies grabbed the next draw, but Ferry checked the ball loose and ran for goal. The sophomore stuck her fifth of the day to pull the Eagles to within a goal.

Andres won another draw control, her fourth of the day, to give the Eagles the ball with a chance to tie. Ferry earned the fan and drew a pair of fouls before finishing from eight meters to tie the game with 2:40 on the clock. She won the next draw and drove through the fan to the edge of the crease to put away what would become the game-winner with two and a half minutes left.

Ferry won another draw, her eighth to get the Eagles possession, but the Aggies forced a turnover, and the Eastern defense needed to find a stop. They challenged Delaware Valley in the ride and forced a turnover with less than 90 seconds to play. The Eagles held possession for the win.

"We battled for a full 60 minutes today," Head Coach Elizabeth Gainer said of the match, "[I am] Super proud of the effort all over the field. For a majority of the game we were trailing, but the team found a way to put it together and come out with a win."

Libby Daniskas made eight saves in goal to earn the win.

Eastern's women are back in action on Thursday at Hood College.
