NEWPORT NEWS, Va.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse (2-3) fell behind 6-1 in the first quarter and were not able to slow the No. 18 Christopher Newport Captains (3-1) on the way to a 19-7 road loss.
Connor Killion led the Eagles with three goals .
How It Happened:
The Eagles won faceoffs early, but the strong CNU ride forced turnovers and the Captains took advantage with pinpoint shooting to lead 5-0 before the midpoint of the first quarter.
Colin Piper scored to cut the deficit to 5-1, but CNU scored the final goal of the period for a 6-1 lead.
Adam Grant made six saves in the quarter, but the Eastern goalie was unable to account for the eight turnovers.
The Eagles grabbed three goals back in the second quarter. The final one came on an individual effort from Killion as time expired to pull the Eagles to within four goals at intermission.
While the Eastern defense managed the CNU attack in settled situations, the Captains converted in transition almost at will. They executed in the ride and finished their chances. The Eagles finished the game with 24 turnovers.
Anthony Firmani won 8-of-10 faceoffs and
Brian Casey was 11-for-18 with nine ground balls. The Eagles did not have an extra-man chance in the game. The Captains scored three times with an extra player.
Dylan Rice led the Captains with six goals.
