Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Harris Sets Long-Range Record in 82-62 Win for Women's Hoops

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Jaelyn Harris became the first Eastern University Women's Basketball player to hit eight 3-pointers in a game, and Eagles (12-9, 7-3 MAC Freedom) cruised to an 82-62 home win over Delaware Valley. Harris went 8-of-11 from behind the arc and finished with a career-best 32 points in just over 27 minutes on the floor.

How It Happened:
The Eagles had assists on six of their first seven baskets and jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game. The Aggies (1-20, 0-10 MAC Freedom) cut the Eastern lead to 21-12 with a pair of Shayne Glenn 3-pointers late. Harris had ten points on only five shots at the quarter.

The second quarter was nearly flawless. Harris had another 10 points, on just three shots, and the Eagles shot 10-for13 (76.9%) from the floor while holding the Aggies to just four made field goals. Karlea Zazopoulos came off the bench to hit a pair of 3-pointers and the Eagles had seven assists and only two turnovers on the way to a 47-24 lead.

Kay Wulah had eight points, and Viki Kneis and Da'Naziah Brown each had six.

While the Eagles shot just 6-for-18 from the floor in the third, the defense stayed strong and the lead stayed int he 20's throughout. Harris sat for the latter part for the period and did not score in the third.

That changed quickly in the fourth. She played the first six minutes of the fourth and made all four of her shots for 12 more points. Four different players have made six 3-pointers in a game, but up until today, only Kaleigh Boreman had made seven. She hit 7-of-8 in a 95-68 win at Cedar Crest College in 2012. With 63 made 3-pointers this year, she moves into a tie with Gina DiDomenico for the single-season lead. DiDomenico is the career leader with 171. Harris has 113 in under two full seasons.

The Eagles led by as many as 33 points in the fourth before the Aggies closed the gap with a late push.

Kneis had 14 points and Wulah finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Brown had nine points, seven assists, six rebounds, four steals and no turnovers while running the Eastern offense.

Coach Houston Says:
"I am very proud of the way we played. We attacked the game at both ends. We defended the ball very well and made it difficult for them to score and we shared the ball. Jae had a outstanding individual shooting performance. She was on and her teammates were doing a good job making the extra pass to get her good looks. Every shot she took was a good one.  She was lights out. She will be the first to say that a record like this is a team-record. The way we competed and executed, this was a great team win."

Up Next:
The Eagles will host FDU-Florham at 8 pm on Wednesday. With King's losing to FDU-Florham today, the Eagles are alone in third place in the league. With their early-season win over DeSales, the Monarchs have a critical tie-breaker in their back pocket. The Stevens Ducks sit two games back. Eastern will be at Stevens next Saturday.
