Women's Soccer Races Past Goucher

BALTIMORE, Md.– Eastern University Women's Soccer(2-1) scored three times in the second half to earn a 4-0 win and hand the host Goucher College Goughers (3-1) their first loss of 2019. Four different players scored goals in the match to lift the Eagles to the win.

How It Happened:
The Eagles had the better of possession early, but the host Gophers put two shots on frame in the opening half hour. The Eagleshad a great chance on a slotted ball from Nicole Weenink that fell to Zoe Galvin at the top of the box. Galvin took a quick touch, but her shot slipped over the crossbar and the game stayed tied.

In the 39th minute, Galvin unknotted the score with a 25 -yard free kick from the left side. The senior midfielder bent a right-footed shot over the wall and into the top-left corner for her first goal of the year.

The Eagles held a 1-0 lead at the break.

Weenink made a play to change the game early int he second half. The senior forward earned the edge on the left side and slipped a cross into the scoring area. Alyssa Sheaffer met the serve and her left-footed shot slipped inside the far post for a 2-0 lead.

That lead would be more than enough. Behind senior center backs Amy Radcliffe and Carli Sitkowski, Grace Schreckengast faced only a single shot in the second. She was equal to the task. She finished with three saves to secure her second clean sheet of the 2019 campaign.

The Eagles put the game out of reach with a great team goal in the 80th minute. Galvin collected a ball in the middle of the field and switched the play. Radcliffe played a ball forward to Weenink on the left flank. She drove deep on the dribble, but ran into resistance and dropped a ball to Lynnae Swanson near the touchline on the left side. She curled a big cross into the box where Paxton McGinnity won the challenge for the ball. Katerina Mouzakitis was in the right spot to drive home her first goal of the year.

Eastern capped the scoring in the waning seconds. Mouzakitis played a ball wide. Kayla Patitucci ripped a long shot into the upper corner for the final margin.

Coach Stueck Says:
"We came ready to play toda. We focused on keeping the ball and finding calm in our possession. That showed in both halves. It was good to see four different players find the net. Kayla and Alyssa each scored their first collegiate goals."

"Amy and Carli were superb in the back today. They both defended well, but it was their composre on the ball that made the difference. We will look to build on this momentum for a big non-league test on Tuesday. We are looking forward to being at home."
