ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Early goals from the visiting Haverford College Fords (3-1) put Eastern University Women's Soccer in an early hole and the Eagles (2-2) were unable to climb out. The Fords scored all four of their goals int he first half to pull away to the win.
How It Happened:
Haverford had chances very early as the Eagles cleared away a couple early crosses. The early pressure turned into a goal less than two minutes into the match on a good feed from Saede Eifrig to Leanne Ludwick. Ludwick, a senior, scored three goals to lead the Haverford attack.
Moments later, the Eagles had their best chance of the match.
Katerina Mouzakitis turned a ball thirty yards from goal and slipped a pass behind the Haverford back row for
Nicole Weenink. Eastern's senior forward outran the Haverford defenders and ripped a one time shot toward the lower right corner, but Haverford goalkeeper Hannah Friedrich timed the play perfectly and parried the shot from danger.
Six minutes later, the Fords doubled their advantage on a cross from the right side. Ludwick again finished the pass from Eifrig. Celia Page made it 3-0 in the 14th minute and Ludwick completed her hat tick in the 31st minute.
The Eastern defense settled in and limited the Haverford chances the rest of the way, but the damage was done. The Eagles had three corners and several dangerous area restarts in the second half and force Haverford's keeper to make a pair of stops.
Coach Stueck Says:
"Haverford came out ready to play today, and executed their game plan very well. Their number 30 was terrific. Beforehand, I thought we'd either shut her down or she'd be the story of the game. She was the story of the game."
"We made some tactical adjustments at halftime which helped even out the game, and we will look to build off the positives from the second half."
"Losing tests our team's character, and it's important we stick together, stay positive, and stay focused. We have an important opportunity to rebound on Saturday."
