ROSEMONT, Pa.– Eastern University Softball earned a split at Rosemont College with a 10-2 run-shortened win in the nightcap of a home doubleheader played on the road. The Eagles dropped a wild 16-15 decision in the opener.
How It Happened:
On the day that workers were laying sod on Eastern's new home field, the Eagles took to the road for the seventh-straight time this season. The Eagles would be the home team in the games against the Ravens.
Rosemont (7-17) scored first in the nightcap, but the Eagles grabbed a 4-1 lead with four tallies in the bottom of the second.
Rebecca Howard and Sam Albertson had RBI singles.
Jess Snader drove in a run with a ground ball and
Sabrina Thomas picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded walk.
The Ravens scored once on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third before the Eagles rallied with three more run-in the bottom of the fourth.
Taylor Crown drove in two with a double and
Lexi Evelyn drove her in with a single.
Evelyn worked around a jam in the fifth to bring the Eagles back to the plate up 7-2.
Albertson tripled to lead off the inning and
Sami Britton doubled to center to drive her in.
Emily Loomis singled to drive in Britton. After Thomas singled to move Loomis to third, Corwn singled to end the game.
Evelyn scattered five hits to earn the win. The Eagles finished with 14 hits in game two.
The Eagles (4-18) had 23 hits in the opener, but defensive miscues gave the Ravens extra chances. Rosemont scored 11 unearned runs in the game.
The Eagles went up 12-8 with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth. Evelyn had two doubles in the frame as Eastern pounded out seven hits in the inning. That would not, however, be enough.
Rosemont scored four runs with two outs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 12-12. The Eagles had a chance to win it in the bottom of the seventh, but Crown was gunned down at the plate on Howard's fly ball to right.
The Ravens scored four times in the top of the eighth. Britton and Thomas had RBI singles in the bottom of the inning and Albertson scored on a Crown sacrifice fly, but the rally ended with two on base.
Thomas and
Catelynn Erickson each had three hits and three RBI's in the game.
