Baseball Drops Two at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa.– Eastern University Baseball came into today's doubleheader at DeSales needing to win 4-of-5 league games down the stretch to have a shot at the MAC Freedom Tournament. Quiet bats and aggressive base-running from the hosts led to a pair of losses and elimination from post-season consideration. DeSales won the opener 7-1 and claimed the nightcap 7-2.

How It Happened:
The Bulldogs scored at least once in each of the first four innings on the way to a 6-0 lead. The hosts used bunts and stolen bases to build rallies. Kyle Daddario had the Eagles' only hit in the first five innings. His line drive off the back of Bulldog starter JJ Paul. The first-year left-hander was unfazed.

The Eagles finally chased him with three consecutive hits to start the sixth, but the DeSales bullpen shut down any chance of an Eastern rally. Jacob Breyer took the loss in the game.

The Bulldogs (19-14, 13-5) got a complete-game effort from freshman Will Manley in the second game. The Eagles scratched out single runs in the second and third innings, but the Bulldogs scored seven times in the first three innings to give their rookie right-hander a cushion.

The Eagles (12-25, 6-12) got two-hit games from both Britton Lawrence and Liam Clarke in the nightcap. Mickey Foytik went the distance in the loss. The Eagles had won at least a game in each of the first five MAC Freedom series this year.

Coach Renauro Says:
"We did not give ourselves a chance to win today at the plate in either game. We were not disciplined in our approaches. We will continue to work on that the rest of the season. We had plays that we could have made in both games. We did not bring energy back from the break that we needed to be competitive against a good team."

"Mickey didn't hit his spots consistently but got a lot of soft contact today. Their balls in play dropped and ours did not."

Up Next:
The Eagles have a final non-league game at Haverford on Wednesday. They will travel to King's Friday before hosting the Monarchs on Saturday in a season-ending doubleheader.
