ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Tennis hosted the Messiah College Falcons in a non-league match in chilly conditions. The Eagles, playing at home for the first time this spring, were unable to top the five-time defending MAC Commonwealth Champions.
Nick Wool grabbed the Eagles' only point with a 7-5, 6-0 win at no. 5 singles.
How It Happened:
The Falcons grabbed control of the match with wins at each of the doubles spots. Wool and
Cole Patti kept things close at second doubles, but the Falcon duo earned a break to claim an 8-5 win.
The first four singles matches all had competitive first sets. Patti lost his opener 7-6 in a 7-4 tiebreaker at the no. 3 spot.
Ryan Hamilton and
Karl Finkbeiner each lost 6-4 in their opening sets. Only Patti was able to rally to extend the match. He won his second set 6-3 before falling 10-2 in a super-tiebreaker.
Coach Spangler Says:
"We did not play poorly, but we did not play well enough either. We hung around in points, but we did not attack on the ground strokes enough to beat a team like them. This match is good for us as we build into the league matches."
Up Next:
The Eagles will host King's in a MAC Freedom match on Saturday.
