WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Lacrosse was unable to recover from a slow start at King's and dropped an 18-5 decision in a critical MAC Freedom match.
Meghan Kosmides scored three free-position goals and grabbed 6 draw controls to lead the Eagles.
How It Happened:
King's (6-9, 3-1 MAC Freedom) scored twice in a 35-second burst to grab a 2-0 lead. The Monarchs stretched that edge to 5-0 before the Eagles had a shot at goal.
Kosmides finally broke the drought with a goal with seventeen minutes left to go in the half. She scored her second goal of the afternoon three minutes later on another free-position goal. The Monarchs answered the Eastern burst with another five-goal burst to grab a 10-2 lead. Kosmides scored another free-position shot, but King's scored three more before halftime to lead 13-3 at the break.
King's had a 22-8 edge in first-half shots. The Eagles were only 4-of-16 clearing against the aggressive Monarch ride.
Carly Burns and
Stephanie Arnold each scored free-position goals in the second half, but the Eagles were unable to close the gap further.
Marcie Spencer made 15 saves for the Eagles.
Coach Campbell Says:
"Our attack and defense were not in sync for this game. I thought Marcie stepped up in the second half. We did a good job adjusting on the draws, but we had too many turnovers in the first half. "
