ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– After falling behind 6-0 early, Eastern University Baseball rallied to close the gap, but the visiting Delaware Valley Aggies held on for a 7-5 win.
Andrew Behnam threw four scoreless innings in relief to give the Eagles a chance to rally.
How it Happened:
The Aggies (8-17, 4-9) scored a single run in the third inning and caught a break with two on and two out in the fourth. With rain falling throughout the afternoon, the outfield became increasingly slick. A short fly ball to center turned into a two-run single when
Matt McHale went to all fours on his first step to the ball. The Aggies tacked on three more runs on four hits in the fifth.
The Eagles started the rally with a
Jordan Laboy walk in to lead off the fifth.
Shane Albertson hit a ground-rule double into the bullpen in left field to put two into scoring position Laboy scored on a single to right by
Liam Clarke and Albertson came in on a foul ball to right by
Britton Lawrence. Clarke made it to third when the right fielder ran out of the field of play and threw the ball back into the infield from out of play.
The rally continued as
Brady DiGiacomo jumped on the first pitch to hit a ball to right center. After DiGiacomo advanced to third on a wild pitch
Mickey Foytik singled him home.
Kyle Daddario kept the inning going with a single to left. The rally ended on a 5-4-3 double play with a very close call at first.
Colyn Hoffer, who retired the last out in the fifth, started the sixth and ran into a little trouble. Two base-runners reached before he gave way to Behnam. The senior right hander got the first hitter he faced to foul out to the Laboy behind the plate. The next hitter flied out before Del Val's Cody Brown delivered a two-out single to put the Aggies up 7-4.
Lawrence tripled to start the seventh. He scored on a long fly ball from DiGiacomo, but the Eagles were not able to get another runner into scoring position the rest of the afternoon.
