Baseball Settles for Split With Del Val

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.– Eastern University Baseball split today's doubleheader but dropped the season series in a pair of closely contested games at Delaware Valley University. Mickey Foytik went the distance to earn a 4-3 win in the opener. The Eagles led 4-3 going to the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap, but the Aggies got a two-run double with two outs to end the game.

How It Happened.
After the Aggies scored single tallies in the second and third innings off Foytik, the Eagles struck for a single run in the fourth. The bottom of the order did the work as Luke Gruendl doubled to lead off the inning and Brad Clemens drove him in with a single to center.

The Aggies (9-19, 5-10 MAC Freedom) grabbed an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth to lead 3-1. The Eagles finally broke through with a three-run inning in the fifth. Liam Clarke started the rally with a single. After Britton Lawrence and Brady DiGiacomo walked, the Eagles got RBI's from Gruendl, Matt McHale, and Clemens to take the lead.

Foytik took over the game from there. The senior right-hander faced only ten hitters over his final three innings of work. He struck out three hitters in that span. It is his second complete-game win in the league.

The Eagles scored single runs in each of the first three inningsof game two. Lawrence, James Baker, and DiGiacomo all had RBI's. Down 3-0, The Aggies chipped back with single tallies off Jacob Breyer in third, fourth, and fifth innings. The run in the fifth came on a home run to right field.

Steve Sattanino came on to work a scoreless sixth, and the Eagles went up a run after Lawrence hit a lead-off triple and scored on a DiGiacomo sacrifice fly. It is the second day in a row that Lawrence led off the seventh inning with a triple and scored on a DiGiacomo fly ball. That run put the Eagles in a position to win. The Aggies got two singles to start the inning, but Sattanino retired the next two hitters with the runners staying put. A two-out double, however, ended the game.

Coach Renauro Says:
"We started off the second game executing but then got complacent. We did nothave the focus we needed in our at bats. Our pitchers did a good job all day, but when we missed spots they made us pay."

Up Next:
The Eagles host Manhattanville College in a nine-inning game at The Yard tomorrow. That game is slated to start at 2:00 pm.
