Women's Lacrosse Tops Wilkes

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern Unviersity Women's Lacrosse recorded an important 16-8 MAC Freedom win against the visiting WIlkes University Colonels on Olson Field. The Eagles dominated first-half draw controls on the way to an 11-4 lead at the break. Meghan Kosmides scored four of her five goals and had all 11 of her draw controls in the first half.

How It Happened:
The Eagles had command of first half possession with a 13-3 edge in draw controls. Mackenzie Dix opened the scoring on a feed from Sabrina Campbell on the first possession of the game. After Wilkes equalized, the Eagles scored three in a row and eight of the next nine to build a 9-2 lead. Kosmides had three free position goals in the stretch. Campbell had all three of her goals in the critical stretch.

The two teams traded goals on the way to an 11-4 halftime score. Dix closed out the scoring with a man-up goal in the final 90 seconds of the half.

The Eagles (3-7, 2-1 MAC Freedom) got five goals in the second half from five different players. Claudia Glover had a goal and two assists after half. Jessica Ketscheck and Stephanie Arnold scored two of the final three goals. In preserving the lead, Eastern did not score in the final twelve minutes.

Dix finished with four goals, five caused turnovers, and seven ground balls. Kosmides was a perfect 5-for-5 on shots and converted all four of her free position attempts. She also caused four turnovers. Marcie Spencer made six stops to earn the win.

Domenica Lerch had four goals for the Colonels (6-5, 0-3 MAC Freedom).

Coach Campbell Says:
"We possessed the ball today and we were able to work the clock and create some nice goals. 6 of 16 were assisted. I want to see more of that especially as we head into Kings Saturday. They are always a strong opponent and we enjoy playing a great game of lacrosse against them."

"Marcie played a strong second half for us in cage. She not only had some solid saves, but she was calm and quick in her clearing today. We had quick transitions and were able to clear because of her accurate distribution."
