Box Score CLEARWATER, Fla.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse scored the first five goals of the second half and held off a late charge from the Otterbein University Cardinals (3-2) on the way to a 9-7 neutral site win at the end of both teams' Spring Break.
Trent Ashton scored three goals and added an assist to pace the Eastern attack.
The Eagles held a 3-2 lead late in the first half on goals from Trent,
Colin Piper, and Riley Seal, but the Cardinals scored to tie the game at the buzzer.
Rather than lose momentum, the Eagles rallied in the second half. Trent opened the scoring in the second half and
Antonio Yeoman made it 5-3 with his fifth goal of the year.
Mark Buannic scored early in the fourth for a 6-3 edge. The senior attackman added another soon after and then Piper tallied his second of the day for an 8-3 edge with 10 minutes to play.
The Cardinals scored twice in the next three minutes to close the gap to 8-5 before Trent stopped the run with his third of the afternoon. The Cardinals scored with under a minute and added a final goal with 16 seconds left.
The Eagles were strong on face-offs with Zack Bauer winning 12-of-15 draws and Anthony Firmami claiming wins on 3-of-4 scraps.
The Eagles (2-3) will return north tomorrow for a pair of matches against Nationally Ranked Teams next week. Eastern is at No. 12 Ursinus on Wednesday and will host No. 8 Gettysburg on Saturday.
