BEL AIR, Md.– Eastern University Baseball dropped a pair of tight games to the unbeaten Frostburg State Bobcats (9-0) at Harford County Community College. Eastern fell, 10-9, on a walk-off walk in the nine-inning opener and dropped the seven-inning second game, 5-3.
Eastern came into today's game having piched seven games in the last eight days. The Bobcats, on the other hand, had all their arms available after a week without a game.
Even so, the Eagles struck first on RBI singles from
Matt McHale and
Liam Clarke in the top of the fourth.
Mickey Foytik moved through the first three innings without much difficulty, but ran into trouble in the fourth. The Bobcat offense struck for six in the fourth.
Jacob Breyer retired the final two hitters of the inning with a runner on second base.
Breyer stopped the bleeding, and though he allowed a single run in the fifth, kept the Eagles in the game for a rally. Eastern took advantage of some Frostburg miscues to build a five-run sixth inning.
Britton Lawrence delivered the big blow with a three-run double to put the Eagles up 8-7. The Eagles added another run inthe seventh and led 9-7 heading to the bottom of the ninth.
The first three Frostburg hitters reached in the ninth, and
Steve Sattanino came on with one run in and runners on the corners. The sophomore right-hander struck out the first man he saw and retired a second hitter swinging as the Bobcat runnerr stole second. The Eagles elected to walk the bases loaded. The next two hitters drew walks to end the game.
Nelson Ocasio and
Christian Shissler split the second game. Ocasio walked three, and hit a batter in the first inning as the Eagles fell behind 3-0.
Liam Clarke led off the second with a double and scored on a
Kyle Daddario single. Ocasio ran into more wildness in the third and the Bobcats plated one run without a hit before Shissler came on in relief to get the final out of the frame.
Frostburg scored once in the fourth, but Shissler pitched scoreless frames in the fifth and the sixth to keep the Eagles within striking distance.
Eastern scored twice in the seventh and had the bases loaded with with two outs, but Frostburg brought in a closer for the final out to end the game.
The Eagles (1-8) are slated to play at Cabrini on Wednesday.
