ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Baseball picked up a 6-5 win in the completion of last week's suspended game against Cabrini, but the Eagles were unable to hold the momentum and fell 13-1 in the regularly scheduled game.
James Baker picked up the game-winning RBI with an infield single in the eleventh inning.
How It Happened:
The suspended game started with the Eagles hitting in the top of the eleventh inning. After a ground out to start the frame,
Liam Clarke reached on an error and stole second. He moved to third when
Kyle Daddario grounded out. Baker, who entered the line-up today, fell behind in the count but managed to fist a slow roller toward third. The first-year infielder beat the throw and Clarke scored.
Steve Sattanino, who pitched the final two frames at Cabrini, continued on the hill. The sophomore right-hander struck out the first two Cavaliers he saw and made a nice play on a bunt attempt to end the game. He picked up the win in three innings of work.
Game two got off to a rough start when the Cavaliers took advantage of early walks to go up 4-0 in the first inning. Cabrini then tacked on a run in the second and two in the third.
Nick Kosenske pitched a perfect frame in the fourth and worked around a lead-off double for a scoreless fifth. The sophomore right-hander ran into problems in the sixth, and the Eagles gave up four more runs before
Evan Frisby came on to get the final out of the inning. Frisby worked a scoreless seventh, and
Jackson Strickland worked around a pair of walks in the eighth, but the Eastern offense was unable to mount a rally against Cabrini starter Kyran Weemaels.
The Eagles picked up their only run in the ninth after Daddario laced a double into left-center and
Matt Poma drove him home.
Up Next:
The Eagles are at Cairn University tomorrow and return home on Friday to resume MAC-Freedom play witha single game against Wilkes.
