Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Tipped by Neumann in Florida

ORLANDO– Meghan Kosmides scored six goals, added three assists, and a program-record 18 draw controls, but Eastern University Women's Lacrosse dropped a tough 19-17 decision to local rival Neumann University in a neutral-site game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports facility in Florida. The Eagles held a 16-15 lead with six minutes to play, but the Knights scored four the final five goals of the game to claim the win.

How it Happened:
The two teams battled in for sixty minutes that only saw both teams hold a three-goal lead. The Knights scored three-straight goals in a five-minute stretch to break a 3-3 tie, but the Eagles responded with a man-up goal by Carly Burns and a pair of Sabrina Campbell tallies to tie the game at 6-6 in less than a minute. Neumann answered with goal with less that four minutes to play in the half, but the Eagles took the lead to the locker room after goals by Allison Andres and Kosmides.

Eastern won 13-of-16 draw controls in the opening half and held a 15-to-10 edge in shots on goal.

The Eagles scored the first two goals of the second half, but Neumann scored seven of the next eight goals in the game to flip a three-goal Eastern edge to a 14-11 Neumann lead.

After an Eastern timeout, Kosmides claimed another draw control and Campbell put away a free position goal. After another Kosmides win in the circle, Stephanie Arnold converted from eight meters. Two minutes later, Andres scored another free position shot to tie the score at 14-14. Neumann answered with a goal after a save and a clear, but Kosmides put away two more goals for a 16-15 edge.

Neumann again flipped the score with two more goals and controlled the next draw. Jessica Ketscheck secured the ground ball after a Knight turnover and Kosmides set up Claudia Glover to tie the game at 17-17. Andres hada  shot for the lead, but Neumann goalie Catirona Corrigan made the stop and the Knights took the lead on the next possession. With  the Eagles pressing out for the steal, the Knights scored the final goal with 77 seconds left.

Campbell had five goals and Andres had two goals and an assist. Arnold added six draw controls. The Eagles won 27-of-38 draws in the game, but that advantage was diminished by 28 team turnovers. Kaitlyn Conrad scored eight goals to lead Neumann.

Kosmides broke the Eastern program-record for draw controls in match. She had 12 against DeSales last year. It is the second six-goal match in her career.
