Women's Basketball Pulls Away From Abington

ABINGTON, Pa.– Da'Naziah Brown hit two 3-pointers int he final 19 seconds of the first half to cap a 10-0 run that gave Eastern University Women's Basketball critical momentum and a 34-19 lead over Penn State Abington at the break. The Eagles then made 11-of-20 shots in the third quarter to build a larger lead on the way to an 80-51 win headed into Christmas Break.

How It Happened:
The Eagles made only 4-of-17 shots in the opening period but used solid defense to hold a 13-10 lead. The Eastern lead stood at 24-19 with just over 70 seconds left in the first half. Minika Glenn converted a three-point play. Kay Wulah split a pair of free throws after a MaryKate McLaughlin steal.

The host Lions missed a pair of shots and the Eagles took possession only a couple ticks of the clock difference between the shot clock and the game clock. Brown got a good look at the top of the key on a kick from McLaughlin and buried her second 3-pointer of the game with 19 seconds to play. The Lions took a long 3-pointer that looked to be the final shot of the half, but the rebound caromed out in front of the Eastern bench with 1.8 seconds to go in the half.

The Eagles rolled the ball forward and Brown picked it up, took a dribble and heaved a shot from mid-court just before the buzzer for a 34-19 lead.

Eastern (4-4) rode that momentum and hit four shots in the opening minutes of the second half. Viki Kneis scored in the lane and Jaelyn Harris, Glenn, and Brown each hit 3-pointers to bump the lead to 22. Jaelyn Harris hit a 3-pointer to end the third period for a 63-37 lead.

All five Eastern starters finished in double-figures. Brown was 6-of-10 from the floor and finished with 15 points, ten rebounds, four assists, and four steals.Wulah finished with a game-high 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Glenn finished with 17 points and nine rebounds and Harris and Kneis each added 12. The Eastern defense held the Lions to 18-of-64 shooting and 0-of-13 from behind the arc.
