Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls to Rowan in High-Scoring Affair

RADNOR, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Basketball scored a season-high 86 points, but it was not enough as the Rowan University Profs burned the nets for 109 points on the opening day of the Cabrini University Classic. Rowan (10-1) shot 65 percent (22-of-34) in the second half to pull away. Minika Glenn finished with a game-high 26 points, but it was not enough as the Profs put five players in double-figures.

How It Happened:
The Eagles (4-5) showed resiliency after the Profs put together a a 24-to-0 run to flip a 10-6 lead into a 30-10 advantage with seven and a half minutes left int he first half. Kay Wulah hit a foul-line jump shot to stop the run. The Profs bumped the lead to 22 points before the Eagles were able to put together a run of their own. Karlea Zazopoulos hit a jumper from the corner to spark a 10-to-0 Eastern run. Sarah Haas and Jaelyn Harris each hit 3-pointers in the stretch. Zazopoulos made two 3-pointers and Harris connected on a three-point play as the Eagles closed the gap to 44-39 on a Glenn jumper with less than a minute to play. The Profs scored the final four points of the half to lead 48-39 at the break.

Harris led the Eagles with 10 points at half and Zazopoulos had eight. Grace Marshall hit all six of her shots from the floor to lead the Profs with 15. The Eagles made 10-of-13 shots from the floor in the second quarter.

The third quarter featured more offense. Both teams shot over 60 percent from the floor in the period. The Profs used high-pressure defense and nearly flawless shooting to build an 83-58 lead with a minute to play in the third. Glenn had nine points and two steals in the final minute of the period to close the gap to 84-69. The Profs made 14-of-21 shots in the period and the two teams combined for 66 points in ten minutes.

After hitting 10-of-20 from behind the arc in the first three periods, the Eagles managed only a single 3-pointer in the fourth and were unable to cut further into the Rowan lead. Marshall led the Profs with 25 points on 10-of-11 shooting for the game. Nicole Mallard made all seven of her shots for 19.

Harris finished with 22 points and Wulah added 13. Both teams finished with 35 rebounds, but the Profs forced the Eagles into 26 turnovers and turned those into 32 points.

Coach Houston Says:
"We talked about controlling tempo and limiting turnovers, but they put together the run early and we had to speed up. We shot well from the floor and made our free throws, but the speed of that game was going to be in their favor. With Da'Naziah Brown in foul trouble, we were not able to play at the pace without too many mistakes. I think we learned some things and it was good to see Karlea hit some shots and for us to battle back after we got down early."

Up Next:
The Eagles will have a very quick turnaround. They will play Arcadia tomorrow at noon to wrap up the year. Arcadia beat Cabrini 50-47 in the first game of the day.
